but im 19 years old myself... i have stood on both sides of the law... the good side, a respectful young adult who abides by the law to the best of his abilitys... and ive been the little punk that broke every law he could and not face serious time... (not a rapist murder, or thief/robber...)
and with that, i have stood in front of a lot of cops, some times hoping they would believe the BS story i just told him... and ive had a few cops that treated me like i was a little kid... had another cop draw his gun on me as soon as he had found out i had a pendin assault charge... i have a cop that if he sees my car, it doesnt matter if my 77 year old grandma is driving or one of my parents driving, or me driving, will fallow it and wait for a reason to pull it over, cause the last time he pulled me over i didnt have insurance... yeah, those cops, for a long time, i hated with all my guts, and had no respect for them....
but there are other cops, who treat me like an adult... they know a little bit about me... they know every detail of every criminal activity ive ever been cought on, mostly because they where the cops questioning... but they know i come from a home that brings in next to nothing for cash, they knows i spend a lot of time taking care of my grandma... they know about my school and job... and they know that i dont have insureance, that i didnt have a liceness, that i have a lead foot, and my windshield is cracked in my line of site... that my car isnt 100% legal... things dont work right.. i have to hit stuff occasionally to get stuff to work... i have a fender falling off... and when a couple of cops see me driving by, they just smile and wave... these cops, i have respect for... i had one of them come to my house last febuary 28th.. he said "billy, you have a warrent, i have to take you to jail" i said oh.. i didnt relize i had missed a court date, would it be ok for me to call my mom and let her know where i will be at so i can make sure my dog is taken care of and have some one watch my house for me" he said "sure thats fine why dont you put your shoes on and shirt on to..." as we where walking out the door, he said you have a smoke dont you?? i said i sure do... he told me to light one up and enjoy it... and so i did, he let me finish my pop in the back seat... he didnt hand cuff me, he barrely searched me... he let me choose a radio station... and we talked the whole way down there... i go and drink a cup of coffee with him almost every morning and talk about other deputys who sort of have their pantys in a bunch...
but ive also now respect those cops that treated me like a bad guy... cause honestly, ive spent a good part of my life doing wrong things... its only been a short time since i turned my life around... but, i understand now, they where just doing their jobs, the cop that pulled the gun on me, was from a "ghetto" in new york... im sure he has had some scary days over there... he didnt know who i am he just saw my arrest record and prepared for the worst.... the cop that fallows me around, he is just doing his job up=holding the law, and making sure, myself and other drivers are protected...
walk a mile in a cops shoes first.. ever notice they wear these things on top of their shirts or under their shirts??? called bullet proof vest... well they dont have that on their heads... and the badges a cop wears, to a lot of people, makes him a target... just like the flag on our soldiers, makes them a target to be shot at... some cops have been a the middle of gun fights, and where lucky enough to walk away while their brothers and sisters on the force didnt walk away... now, he is taking a safety procotion, and making sure he has the better hand...
well thats my rant.. no idea where it went... or what i said... but i must of said a lot cause my head hurts now..
You could end it with an apology , & to learn to appreciate what is at stake when stopping a vehicle in the wee hours.
He let you off with a warning ...Even though I'd bet my last dollar, you you were less than cooperative
If you were on the way from where the light was broken , I can understand your position . BTW , you didn't say how long you have been driving that way . If a while , you should be grateful it didn't happen sooner. This was YOUR fault
Fix the tail light , & quit complaining ....I can guarantee you would not want that job .....
