He used any excuse to pull you over so he could see if you had been drinking, had an arrest warrant, or he could find a good enough excuse to search your car for drugs.

At least, that's how I read that. It's happened to me before too. Broad daylight, 69 in a 65. North of Flagstaff, AZ on 89 heading to Utah. I had CA plates on, and I honestly think that it's a drug smuggling route and they pull you over for anything reason if you have CA plates.

Working the night shift ive gotten pulled over for more of the craziest reasons...once for my trailer hitch ball being to reflective?!? Of course they were just pulling me over cause i was driving at 3am to see if i was drunk and/or high. I really dont blame them and if pulling someone over for a bs excuse gets one drunk off the street who could potentialy come crashing into me is aok in my book.

Maybe we oughtta start carryin cam-corders and tape recorders everwhere we go. The "good guys" use 'em, for their protection, what kinda protection is the regular citizen allowed to carry? Donuts?

There is also the possibility that your car make/model/color was reported as suspicious somewhere else in the neighborhood ... or problems going on and they are just checking on everyone at that time of night hoping to catch the SOB.

I've been having problems with a neighbor throwing fruit/eggs at my house, and just 2 days ago shooting at my windows with a BB gun (didn't break). Cop that responded told us to "call anonymously and report a problem in the neighborhood and give the make/model/color/license-plate of the guy's car. Then we have a reason to pull him over and search the car." They WILL find something, that's for sure, because the guy's a well, you-know-what.

If I ever got pulled over for my trailer hitch ball being too reflective, I'd write down his badge number and file a harrassment complaint. That's just ridiculous.

That's the mentality that Big Brother loves. As long as he's protecting you, you don't mind that he's violating your civil liberties.

You're in good company. Most of America doesn't care that our freedoms are being eroded away little by little every year. Most people will not wake up until it's too late.

Ask him what statute that reflectivity of a trailer hitch ball is governed by.

I am all for taking drunks off the road. But the P/C sometimes makes me itch.

So as long as your civil liberties are left alone, you don't care that a drunk driver crashes into some inocent family or that some drug dealer is selling drugs he just brought up the road....But hey its not my back yard right

Deltasoft,
In some states blue lights are an identifier for law enforcement.
I remember when I was a kid, back in the mid 60's, (no old guy jokes okay?) my older sister had her car parked in the street in front of the house. The Volvo she had, had a green turn signal lense on the left side. T'was the way she bought it from previous owner. The cop told her that she had to replace it with amber as it was too close to the LEO color. I'm not a cop so I am not aware of why it was a problem but apparently there is a problem with it. Probably would confuse something in their protecol

I wish cops would pull over more people. They don't know what is going on until they are right there with you. They aren't mind readers.

Why were you driving without your headlights on ?

That's a bonafide reason to pull you over.... right now.

As far as the Vaildation sticker being paid for BUT [actually u]NOT applied [/u] that too is a reason for being pulled over and a fine levied.

Excellent point andym. This is an issue that many people are frightened of. Including me!!!!
Times have changed. People are capable of and do things now that wouldn't have been considered in times past.
The recent controversy over the govt's phone tap thing is a good example. Who would have thought that anyone could even consider doing what was done when the trade center and pentagon were rammed. Those poor people sitting in their seats in the aircraft while enroute. The thing is there are people like that now. People are doing the unthinkable, and feeling justified. So if we react by sacrificing our civil liberties, what consequences are we in for in the future? Pretty scary. What will the next administration do with this legal right. OMG!
Then there'sThe National Association of Men Boy Love (NAMBLA), which is protected by the ACLU. I guess The ACLU figures this group has rights to their civil liberties as well. That's the constitution. The Constitution was written in a different time. A time that I wish we could return to, morally anyway. To think that there are enough full grown adults out there to make an "association" capable of what these guys think is condonable behavior is also scary. Real scary. There are people doing things these days that makes it a little more acceptable (in appearance) to sacrifice civil liberties. Losing our treasured Civil Liberties is nothing I personally want to do, but might be something that unfortunately may be inevitable. I pray not but what if it should begin to appear that the bad guys are winning. The only way to fight back is.....?
