Manual Brake Upgrade

I am doing a semi-frame off on my 61 unibody. Has anyone tried using a manual brake - double bowl master cylinder from a later model Ford like a galaxy or falcon. I've been checking them out and the firewall mount is the same. What am I missing? I haven't heard anything about this type of swap. I'm not ready to do a front end swap, so the next best thing for safety is to use a double bowl master cylinder.

Seems like to me that if the push rod is the correct length, or can be made to be correct, then you'd be good to go.

You can also step up to a premium brake shoe - which is WAY better than the run-of-the-mill brake shoes - and new drums with fresh wheel cylinders to vastly improve your braking capabilities.

You can even pull one from a local auto parts store with a warrenty for $40 or less if you ask around. Remember that power brake master pushrods only go in the bore 1/4-1/2 inch. Manual ones go in an inch or more. Keep that in ming when looking at them.

There are disc brake conversions out there for your solid axle. You dont need a front ends swap to get discs. Frankly, The ride on my 64 F100 is as good as my 85 F150. Little bouncy on furrows and washboard but thats all.

Also in addition to the master cylinder you will want a proportioning valve. Biases your brakes to the front you see.

I just swapped my stock single bowl for a dual. I used a new master cylinder from a 1970 F100 manual brakes. It bolts right in. I then took the new rod that came with it and measured the mount surface to the rod eye center and cut 1" off the point of the rod and rounded it similar to the original end. Installed the rod on the pedal with a bracket to hold the brake light switch from the same year truck.
The hardest thing for me to find was lines to go from the MC but I found conversion lines at NAPA. I took the rear line from the distribution block and connected it to the MC front bowl. Then put the new line from the rear bowl to the dist. block and plugged the extra hole in the dist block.
Bled the system and adjusted everything and done.
