302 to 351m engine upgrade

I am pulling a 302 from my 86 f150 w 2bbl carb and dropping in an 80 351m with 2 bbl. Are the motor mounts the same?

The motor mount towers are the same. I did this conversion in my 82 bronco and if I remember right i did not have to do any major fab to do it. Everything pretty much dropped in. mine was a 351w to a 400m swap. hope this helps.

i would do the 400, its the same block but you get more cubes cheap, slap some better flowing heads to take advantage of the added stroke, you got a rocket, a big ugly heavy gas filled rocket

Would love to have the 400, but the 351m was given to me, so I can't beat the price!

I thing the only swap I need to make is the exhaust manifolds. The engine was given to me and he has them, so I think I might be ok

The tranny I have was from a 351w. Will it not bolt up?

No it wont bolt up, some you can swap bellhousings, I know the c6 you cant. What trans do you have? Are you sure its a 351m not a 351w?

OK here is the deal. My truck currently has a 302. I am not sure if the tranny is original or not. Will it not bolt up to 351m?

It won't. You need the right bellhousing if it's a manual, transmission if it's an automatic since the bellhousings are integrated.

The transmission will come with the torque converter if you get a used one. If you have any questions of what will interchange, just go to a site like autozone or napa, and plug in your truck and see what the part number is, and then plug in a 1980 truck with a 351m and see if the part number matches(starters, flexplates, torque converters, motor mounts, etc.)

If you get a used tranny, the first thing to do is to pull the torque converter out and replace the front seal. The torque converter sags when it's not installed and usually ruins the front seal of the tranny. When you re-install the torque converter, make sure you push and turn and push and turn many times to make sure you have it engaged all the way into the tranny.

I hope the 351m was from a 80-up truck and has a rear sump oil pan or you will need to round those parts up. You will also need to get a new y-pipe, and if it was from a truck, it should have the correct exhaust manifolds, otherwise....this free engine is not so free anymore is it?

A 351m for free.... Is this a fresh engine?

More gas, probably less power, certainly no more.

Sell it and freshen your 302 with the money you save not fiddling with your trans, exhaust, cooling, linkages and the little things....
