which 2bbl carb came on the 80's 302/351w's???

80's 302's had either the feedback or non-feedback Autolite 2150
351W's had either the Autolite 2150 or the Motorcraft 7200VV

what's the difference between a feedback and non-feedback carb?

A bunch of wires and crap - Look at the carb, a non-feedback only has a wire to the electric choke. If you have a bunch of wires it's a feedback type.

VV Carbs

VV stands for variable venturi (feed back type). Most people hate this type of carb. Like the Cadillac 8-6-4 engine, it looked good on paper, tested well in the lab, but was a disaster after mass production. If your vehicle has the VV carb and you are not familiar with how it works, get a rebuilt one from a reputable dealer.

the carb i currently have on my engine (300-6) is a single barrel that has a throttle position sensor, a sensor on the bottom butterfly (i think that's what it is, anyway), and a third set of wires going to a plug that comes off of the driver side of the carb...i'm looking at going to a 2bbl carb on this engine (at least until i get my other engine built how i want, 4bbl, dual exhaust, some other mods, etc...), and want to know which 2bbl to get for the current application...daily driver, some off-road/hill climb/lugging up and down mtn roads while hunting, etc...any other info would be helpful...thanks a ton...

I looked at your profile and noticed that your truck is an '84. Your carb would be an electronic feedback type. You also have a computer under the dash, that controls the carb. As 82f1507.5 said, this system was a disaster. Computers and carburetors do not mix. My '85 is the same system you have. I changed it over to the Duraspark 2 ignition. No longer computer controlled.

Finally, I found reference to what I've been looking for. My '85 F250 351M usually runs well, but lately has developed an intermittent problem of not producing spark. It has the TFI system, mounted on the distributer. Diagnosis points to the module, but it tests out good. Individual check of sensors yielded low voltage to temperature sensor. Changed out computer power relay, and voltage went back to normal, but still no spark.

Anyway, I've been wondering if there is another system I can switch to that will not be dependent on all the sensors and not have a computer control. It looks like you just said "yes" - is it hard and/or expensive?

Get a new TFI Module anyways. There are a very well KNOWN defect.

Most of my pollution equip is long gone. The banks of solenoid vacuum switches are about all that remains. I do have a sensor on the back of my carb, but I think it only senses the carb's position instead of controlling it.

I would like to disconnect the computer, replace the distributer, and eliminate all of those vacuum switches.

i converted from tfi to ds2 and it was night and day. it cost me $100 for dizzy,ds2 module, wire harness. i gained 2 mpg cause my computer only controlled the timing and all the wires from the comp had some voltage on them even grounds.

How much of a harness did you have to get? What did you do with the wires to the carb? Was the voltage on all the wires from the computer on the old unit on on the Duraspark?

I probably have a thousand questions just like these, and would really appreciate any and all input.

I have a schematic of the computer. Its not in the greatest shape as far as clarity, but, it looks like that it has all the vehicle's electronics routing into it. It has terminals for the lights and many other things. When I converted the truck to DS-2, I removed the thinner black ground wire from the battery. As this wire has to do with the grounding of the puter. I just folded it and taped it, as leaving it attached would drain the battery.
PCHRISTMAN: Use the search engine in this forum and search for Duraspark. There's a ton of information on how to convert your truck from TFI to DS-2. I would reccomend that you get the wiring harness before getting any other part. The wiring harness is the hardest part to get. I got lucky and was able to get one from Ford. Look in my profile. You should be able to find my posts. One of them has the part number. Good luck.

Me again, I made a mistake as to what the computer does. Things like carbueration, ignition and timing are controlled by the computer. All those sensors are monitored by the computer too.
While I was digging around I found the part number for the Duraspark II Wire Harness.

DS II Wire Harness Part Number: FOD7JL-12A200-CB
I used this on a 4.9L six cylinder motor. Dizzy is on the driver's side of motor.
