Hi guys I have a problem with my alternator light blinks on and off the battery gauge stays at around 16 volts I replaced the batteries around 2 months ago I had 1 bad but changed both batteries. I have also foound that the radio and Acc. stuff sometimes are still powered with the key off I replaced the ignition switch and have found no burnt wires or shorts please helpl this is driving me nuts
OK, first thing you need to do is check the connections on the alternator. Ensure that there is no corrosion, no damages wires and that the wires are getting excellent connection to the alternator.
Second thing is if you are getting 16v and found no problems with the wires then chances are you have a bad voltage regulator on your alternator and you're at risk of damaging electrical equipment. 16v is a pretty high voltage but bearable. You need about 13.5 to 14.5v, not 15, not 16 and if you reach 18 then you're in the danger zone.
Get that alternator checked out ASAP. Preferably swap it out but I'm betting your voltage regulator is shot.
