Very successful weekend! Got the cab off Friday onto a rack so I could get the frame out of the garage where I could do some cleaning on it.
The frame really seems solid with no rot. Guess sitting in a shed since 1969 helped!
Still have a few things to take off; like the bell housing and transmission mount, the running board braces, brake master and pedals. Sometime this winter I would like to get the front and rear suspensions off so sandblasting and painting can be done by next spring.
There was one interesting thing. The gas tank, even after 40 years, still had gas in it!.
I added a "frame" album in my gallery so you can take a look at the frame.
Since the frame looks solid, now I can start coming up with a plan for the rebuild!
Well this is when them two or three things you plan to do will turn into five or six things which turn into more and more and more things. The can has beened opened. Not having must rust will save you a lot of time.My cab has been off for three years and counting.
I've had about 16 hours to think about it and most of those were spent out with my wife, sleeping, and putting up the Christmas tree, yet the list is already growing. New front suspension, 9" rear end, relocate the gas tank... and I haven't even started thinking about the engine/tranny or what to do with the cab.
Just going to take it one step at a time, make one big list and add/subtract as I go.
At least I finally started making progress and it's got me excited.
Frame looks to be in very good shape. I'm curious, how did you manage to get those late model rims to fit as I thought the bolt pattern would be smaller than the originals. Good luck with your build and all the decisions you'll be making.
The rims are new take offs from I believe a 2003 E150 van and they do have the correct 5x5 1/2 bolt pattern. I ran them on my '65 for a couple of years and then I swapped them to this truck before getting rid of the '65. The tires only have about 5000 miles on them too.

Aint that the truth i can never make up my mind on what i want to do for the day building these trucks are way to fun. I think hunting down parts is my favorite thing to do scoring sweet deals on craigslist and ebay
