Flowmaster....

Well one of my flomasters has something rattling in it and i can't live with it. anybody ever had this problem? There about 12 years old but have only been on a vehicle for about a year. They are quiet almost quieter then a 50 series. So i'm not going to be shelling out 80 dollers a peice for new mufflers was thinking of glasspacks but i dont want poping noises. If i go with glasspacks if i get the longest ones i can will it give me a deep tone without pop noises?

i would run tailpipes glasspacks sound like **** with dumpdowns.I do also believe that the popping sound comes from a number of things, one of those being exhaust leaks, and the second one usually comes from the air pump tubes or whatever they are.I had glasspacks on my truck for a while and it never popped.

Do you have cats etc? I don't like Flowmasters anyway. I have seen them do what you described before, but not that often. I prefer straight through mufflers. If you go with glasspacks get the longer ones. I think they are like 24 inches. You can get them as long as about 30 inches. I like the sound of the longer ones. You need tail pipes though for it to sound good.

The shorter glasspacks are more prone to popping or crackling.

I had a large body Magnaflow muffler and cat on my v8 Astro van and I used to get lots of compliments on how great it sounded.

I personally think glasspacks sound like crap; no tone whatsoever. Just brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr............
A chambered muffler always sounds better.

i like the summit welded mufflers that's what i have on my truck and they are quiet enough to have a conversation when cruising but when the secondaries open up people 2 blocks away are like what the hell was that!

Thrush Welded do not sound like Flowmasters. They are basically the same thing as the Dynomax Race Magnum, which is now called UltraFlo Welded. I have them on my 65 Mustang and it sounds perfect.

I have a larger/longer case Magnaflow on my F150, and am very happy with it.

I think chambered mufflers sound exagerated and drone. Either way chambered mufflers generally are not as good for performance as straight through.

In this instance the glasspack definitely sounds better. I know its a Jeep and not a Ford.

You're entitled to your opinion As for the performance thing though, I doubt you'd feel any difference if someone chopped out your glasspack and replaced it with a chambered muffler whilst you were asleep.

i agree the gains you see from a straight through muffler will be less than 10hp on a race motor and probably less than that on a stockish motor

I really doubt you'd see ANY difference between a glasspack and a performance chambered muffler on even a mild small block.
