Overfilled Tranny?

Hi all,
I flushed my tranny about a week ago. I guess I overfilled it a bit because I checked the dipstick today and noticed that the entire white thing at the end of the dipstick was covered in ATF. The tranny was cold. Should I bother draining some out? Any harm done? I've driven maybe 100-200 miles like this.
Thanks.

I would drain some out. It shouldn't be over the lower section (cold level) dimpled area. When over filled you can create aeration of the fluid (foaming). Not good. Also it may puke out the vent hose when it expands when hotter in the summer.

You were checking it cold with the engine running and in "Park", correct?

Checking the transmission level cold is meaningless. You have to check it fully warmed up. I know it has a cold marking, but I do not believe it is at all accurate.

Pull the plug where the temp sensor goes for the gauge (or the sensor itself). It should just dribble out of there. If a bunch comes pouring out, you know it was too full.

My point was that the OP was checking the fluid level when cold and the level was too high at this temperature. I always check mine when fully warmed up and usually after it had been driven. I try to keep it at the high end of the "Hot" range when it is indeed hot. I do check it cold sometimes, but I know where that level usually runs when the trans is filled properly.

That port doesn't go into the pan area, it is in the valve body. So even if the trans is overfilled fluid isn't going to come pouring out of there.

I realize that. My point is that checking it cold is meaningless. It might show too high or it might show too low, even if the level is correct. If you're not checking the trans when it's warmed up you may as well check the trans level by checking tire pressure.
