i no im beating a dead horse and wut not, but im wondering if anyone has had an issue with it getting wet or muddy? since its not enclosed in the factory box anymore im afraid its gonna get dirty real quick. i live in a climate where it rains well down pours all the time and i comute 40 mins to work everyday and dont want any problems. i put a k and n airfilter in the stock box the other day but now reading it wasnt such a good idea. so i ordered a 6637 from napa and am now wondering about it being exposed and also dont like the idea of cutting the battery tray to making it fit.i do alot of loggin road driving so i see a ton of dust all the time. an AIS would be better than the 6637 im sure but wut type bran etc would be a good choice?if someone would like to share there info with me about my questions that would be great. thanx guys
I've gone through some pretty nasty puddles that cover the entire truck with water and might get a few drops on the filter, but that's it. Dan (Kwikkordead) lives in Seattle where it rains pretty often and IIRC, he doesn't have problems either. My filter gets changed once a year around Christmas time. That a picture of what 1 years use looks like compared to new. Maybe with all your driving you can change it 2 times a year. I want to get one of Pete's covers so it looks better.
Some people have to cut the battery tray (I did) and others don't. Take a look at my album Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums - twags6's Album: 6637 and you'll see what I cut out. The filter sat about an inch too high. Cutting that piece out lets it sit just right.
thanx for the info guys, i have one of those covers thats attached to the hood for sound dampening i guess, do you think it will hit the filter even if i cut the box? i picked up the filter today, didnt relize how friggin big it was, biggers better though.
Happy to help man, but wish I had known earlier since I just sent out 11 others today alone, LOL. That's ok I guess, an extra couple days won't hurt. Have a Happy Thanksgiving.

Powerstroke02 the 6637 is a great addition. I did quite a bit or research before putting it in my truck. What I found out is that even in a turenchal down pour you won't get it wet. As for the battery tray I just trimmed a little out from the tray approximately 1" and it fits beautiful. It's a wise choice you won't have any regrets.
I also live around Seattle, and have the 6637 installed for about a year now. No problems whatsoever with water, even when mucking about off-road and chasing pheasant/grouse. No cutting on the original box needed at all. I just removed the old filter box lid, unscrewed the filter box, and replaced it with the new 6637 and a sheet of ABS I had left over from an old pickle barrel.
Clay, Thanks for the instructions! May try today. Need to do the CCV Mod. If I do will try and order kit. Thanks again and Happy Thanksgiving to all! Dave
I put my 6637 on Tuesday night, drove 500 miles on Weds and saw about a 1 - 1 1/2 increase in my MPG. This is a route that I drive at least once a month and EVERYTHING was the same in regards to load, speed, etc. Gotta be the 6637! I ordered the kit from Riffraff and it was a 30 minute install! Piece of cake! THANKS!
