Bill I see you are new here so wellcome, If you are thinking of a frame swap ypu may need to google in 51 ford frame swap. I don't think the search feature will work for you until you get more post in .It won't work for me most of the time and I have been here for a while. I'm sure somebody will come along giving you advise how to do it or not do it. I'm doing a frame change of my own, so if it comes out okay it will be here , if not I will advise why not to do it . Some use s-10 ,some different fords, some keep their frames and update all of the components on it . JIM
if you are looking for a kit to do this, check out speedway,s site .they have a kit for $250.00 or so.
i have not done this but others here seem to like it.
No one that I know of makes a conversion kit for the F-2/F-3 trucks, only the half ton F-1.
A former member, Oilyowl, did a disc brake conversion on his '52 F-3. He longer owns the truck and has deleted the images in his gallery but he gave me permission to use his information for a tech page on my web site.
I used the front calipers and brackets off a 75 F-250, a 77 4x4 front disc and new studs, some machine work and hole filling, re-drilling on my 48 F-68. Same doner truck used all the back brake system (with some axle flange modification) and got 5 16.5 wheels and an new tires!! Updated brake system and no widow makers all in one go!
Had to relocate the shocks to the back side of the front axle, modify the inner fenders some. Pictures of the disc conv in my gallery.
Just to set the record straight, I mistakely used images from Kevin's gallery in my tech page. I had images both from Kevin's gallery and Oilyowl's images in the same file and I used the images I saved at the same time I saved information Oilyowl sent me. I'll fix the page as soon as I get home and have a chance get on the home computer.
sorry about that bigredmays,i didnt mean to mislead you .i forgot i switched my m-68 front hubs for a 53 f-1,so i could have the 5 bolt.
the speedway kit will work for this but not the 8 bolt.
I just put the speedway kit on my F3. As mentioned, it changed my pattern to 5 bolt. That's fine with me though as it will match the 9" I have for the back. It's gonna have hubcaps over the bolts anyway.
