Dumb ?
Can you mix 2 different brands of oil like Shell Rotella and Chevron Delo? Both non synthetic

Well if you were in a pinch I'm sure you would be OK. I wouldn't do it on a regular basis.

a gallon of something else compatible but not the norm for the truck is still better than running a gallon low!!!

from a shell engineer! yes they are mixable even synthetic with dino is mixable. lets face it when you change your oil you still have a gallon in it so in reality if tou were switching brands or types it would be mixed.
