truck wont start

97 f250. Have had a few issues with truck. The two stage manual pimp was not working . I changed it and is work now and has good pressure . Changed the batteries and starter . Alternator is good . Alll fluids are good. It wont start it turns over but will not fire. Just had cam sensor replaced by ford, then bought my own and put in . I know it is not good for the truck but ether it will fire right up and work. I can let it run for five minutes or and hour and as soon I shut if off and go to restart it it will not fired up. Is there a a fuel sender pump in the tanks , any ideas. There was a check engine light but can not get the computer to read the connection on the truck

Just changed the oil the other day . It was a little low but is fine now. I heard a faulty cam sensor will cause a no start. I changed them twice . Also was told that when the truck is cranking over the rpm should be high and if they are only about a 100 could be the cam sensor. Could it be a bad wire. Any hidden relays ?

thx

If it starts on ether and continues to run on diesel then the problem is not the CPS.

You indicated a new starter and new batteries. Is is the starter new or re-conditioned? Usually with both replaced the engine will turn over very fast. 100 RPM is borderline for cold start.

where is the ipr so i can check the orings. If orings are bad could this cause a no start and an ocassional stall. Also on the starter it is used outh of my other truck which was fairly new . New to replace that becasue the pools are a little messed up. Sounds like a good turnover . But i am sure the gauges are right and i am wrong. When the truck strats the rpm seams to be in line whith the way trucks are running. I have codes but cant get the computer to read them

thx

When you're cranking the motor, do you get any smoke out the tail pipe? WTS light function normally? Any mods done to the truck?

Try unplugging the ICP sensor and see if it starts. ICP is front inboard side of drivers head

IPR is down low in the valley towards the front of the motor attached to the HPOP.

pulled the icp off and still would not start . Looked at the ipr and the bronze not and the fitting fell off and was in the v of the engine. the part with the wire was loose . When i tighten it ut it did not move anymore and did not start either . I did see some caked oil and grease in the area . How do you take it off there looked like ther was a bigger nut right near the hop reservoir . Does the whole thing slide out . Would the bad orings cause no start all the time now . Also when i do get it going with ether it runs good. But the check engine light comes on and when you go to stop and go into reverse the truck seems to og down and stall. I did not notice any white smoke coming out when i tried to start it . I have a computer but it is unable to connect .

Usually if that nut falls off, the truck will not run. It might start with ether, but would stall after it's gone. You need to have new o-rings on hand before you pull the IPR out.

Take off the little nut that was laying in the valley, unplug the wires, slide off the spacer and solenoid part (what the wires plugged into) then use a deep socket and it just unscrews from the HPOP. Some sockets might not quite be deep enough. Put the socket on first, then slip the ratchet into the square drive. It may not go in all the way, but you should be able to get a grip on it. Napa sells a socket that is deep enough.

You can get the o-rings here Replacement O-rings for Ford Diesel Engines

thanks just ordered the new kit . I belive i had multible problems and hopefully this is the last one. It doe smake sense i check the ihop level before and it appeared to be empty . Where the sensor is it is caked with oil and grease build up so that would make good sense. The truck will stay at idle when parked , then will die sometimes in reverse and going forward. The rpm just seem to dip. This sounds like the ipr is letting preasure and oil leak out so the truck wont sttart and stay running? Thx
for all your help

replaced the orings nut etc on the ipr sensor. There was tons of oil dirt etc around it .So there must have been a leak . The starter has had it . I ordered on off line . also wires on starter cable in rough shape. Got new batteries ,but going to change terminals.
Air temp sensor was missing I ordered one of those. Broke the icp sensor whan working on truck . Looking to purchase one of these. also truck runs cold , going to change thermostat and change antifreeze. Just did oil coiler should be good after that . Friend bought a ford computer for the laptop . Gonna through it on tom
