Got my money out of this one. This was an extra car that I just couldn't get rid of - too much blood sweat and tears. Around 250K Kids broke it. First it was a problem shifting into reverse and then the high gears. NOW Locked in gear, can't shift it out. Suspect a broken shift fork. Ready to drop the trans and replace the shift forks. Dropped the bottom pan and no pieces. Have never rebuilt a trans but lots of engines and other stuff & my father -in -law has done GM cars.
Appreciate any insights.
Also: I can't tell - can the FM146 transmission be unbolted from the clutch housing without removing the housing from the engine first?

I dont know about the rebuilding, but I can tell you that you will have to remove the trans from the motor. The bolts are inside the housing that hold it to the transmission.
I was just hoping that the trans could be taken off the housing. Read another thread which suggested dropping the exhaust.
When I got it back, the shifter wouldn't move at all. Completely frozen in place. We tried rocking the Bronco backwards and forwards and nothing happened. We had to slide the Bronco on and then off the trailer to get it home.
I dropped the pan to see what I could see. No pieces or parts. Now I have the control housing off. I can now move the shift rails through all of the positions. So maybe it's the Slave Cylinder?
