My question is: can you use a electronic ignition distributor from a 351 M/400 in a 351 Cleveland? My friend was wondering if he could go from points to electronic ignition by using a 351m/ 400 distributor?
to install a Duraspark system all you'd need to do is use the old coil power feed wire to trip a relay that supplies battery voltage to the module red wire and coil, and connect the module white wire to the solenoid like this,
many times the Duraspark can be sourced for little or nothing, and replacement/repair parts can be found within walking distance of a breakdown vs ordering from Jegs or Summit for parts
I just dropped in a Mallory HEI unit. Kind of large, but there is a power wire and tach wire. Can't get much more simple than that. Starts up just like my fuel injected truck.
Hello, I was just posting on another post about the ford ignition system. I would strongly recomend that you go with the ford one. Parts are dirt cheap and like was pointed out already if you have a break down you can go and get another box from a junk yard or any parts store. I have a Chris Jacobs book on ignitions and he recoments the ford one for up to like 8500 rpm or something crazy like that. I put one in a old truck I used to have with a worn out 302 and it was a noticable difference on the performance of it. I also think the 460 is the same dizzy as the 351 c. So if you have a pull a part or cheap junkyard you could get it all pretty cheap.
