351 distributor

I have used an 88 block for a truck that is wired to use points. When I tried to install a rebuilt 73 distributor for 351w it did not fit. One of the rims below the O-ring, part of the main casting, is slightly larger in diameter. Would it be possible to machine this section of the casting to achive fit? Will the oil pump drive shaft match from 73 to 88? The drive gear is a match. A suggestion for a possible, reasonably priced, electronic alternative would be greatly appreciated if this rebuilt distributor proves to be incompatible. Thank you.

The distributor that I had ordered did have the small gear, same as a 302, and also has the larger hole for the 351 oil pump drive. The only catch, is the casting that houses the components at the point where the casting drops into the block.

I have a 400 with 351w distributor. The only difference is the gear.

no you dont. you have a 351C or a 460 distributor. there is no way in hell that a 351W distributor would fit. you are mistaken.

Thanks for your help guys. I have now recieved the correct distributor for the 351w. It is installed but not running yet. I think that the rings are stuck a bit, not allowing compression to build. A bit of oil perhaps...
