Today my battery light started flashing on and off. It will stop flashing when I put a load (run my AC) on the electrical system. When I turn off my AC or lights the battery light starts flashing again. This happens at idle and while going down the road.
I am making the assumption that when you say it stops flashing it is turning off totally...I would take a meter to it and see what your alt is putting out, instinct makes me think voltage regulator
sounds like a possible bad connection somewhere that said check all your battery connections for corrosion and clean any your find and make sure every thing is tight and cables are good. Check all the harnesses in the engine bay and look for any that look like they have been hot or melted and clean them making sure the connection is solid. Also check your headlight plug ins that seemed to be a recent problem for another member. Your alternator putting out that voltage is normal.
my 87' 6.9 is doing the same thing. im putting a new voltage regulator in it right now, ill tell you if it works or not on mine.
I check all the wiring under the hood. All the ground connections look good and nothing seems to have melted anywhere.
Did you change the voltage regulator? Did that solve your problem? What procedures would you use to check to see if the voltage regulator is good or bad?
I went to the auto part store in the pueblo and bought a new voltage regulator and installed it this morning. It seem to have been the trick.
Thanks for helping this idiot out with the "IDIOT LIGHT"
