While enjoying this beautiful day today on my back and getting greasy putting in a new block heater I noticed a fuel leak. It is where the front tank plugs into the low pressure pump on the frame. It appears to be a plastic to plastic connection. My question is has anyone ever repaired such a leak by wrapping some teflon tape to the male end? I need to remove the tank shield as I can't quite get to it so any input prior to disassembly may save some time and effort, not to mention what expense the new connector or pump might be. Thanks....Scott
What are we working on as the idi's do not come with a pump on the frame, could it be the selector valve you are looking at.
Starmilt,
Yes it is where the selector is, where the two tank lines join. I replaced the deteriorated leaking steel rear tank delivery line, and the return while was there, last summer and was told this unit on the frame was a low pressure pump. If it needs to be replaced I'll know for sure.
Not sure about about spring loaded fittings. The male end is grooved and held in by a "C" shaped connector on the female end. Pulled the connector out to remove and pushed back on to reinstall.
Yea no spring on that those plastic c shaped connectors come with new filters for the gassers, not sure if they are sold seperately or not.You might be able to put an oring on the male end and tighten it up that way (could be worth a try).
Thanks I"ll give it a try. I do know the teflon tape won't deteriorate in the diesel so I'll experiment a bit. Ya know I think it was a Ford tech that told me, by phone, the selector unit was a low pressure pump. I do know know advice about these older rigs needs to come from the older techs.
BTW, can you tell me how to list my truck info at the end of the posting as you do with...
absolutely no dodges.
to many fords to list.
one town car.
If it breaks because of my advice
you can keep both halves

You are going to think I'm crazy but I don't remember how you do the signature it was easy though I can tell you that. Somebody with a little computer savvy will chime in. lol
Just installed all new lines and the return on the aux tank was leaking when I finished. Dropped the tank again and the line just wasn't seated or something just pulled it off and reseated it and changed the clip and fixed. You can get the clips at the local auto parts house for a few clams. They're the white ones not the black ones.
