Vibration over 60-65

Hey fellas I have an 04 ranger xlt 4x4 wth 109,000 miles on it I have a slight but reasonable vibration between like 50-60, then after 60 it gets progressivley worst until about 65-70 and is like my passenger seat is going to rattle loose. I have replaced tires (had them rebalanced and an alignment), both L and R upper and lower ball joints, both front wheel bearings, transmission mount and u-joints. They all needed to be replaced anyway accept for the transmission mount. I am starting to think mybe the shocks may have something to do with it so thats my next step. I would think if its the drive shaft it would do it at all speeds and if it was the rear axel bearings i would hear them before feel them. Any input Im about lost and am sick of dumping money into it and am about to take it to a stealership. thanks

Shocks should not be involved in a vibration, they keep the car from bouncing more than anything else. Could the driveshaft be out 180 degrees out? Have you tried getting up to that speed and slipping it into neutral?

Usually a seat vibration indicates a drive line problem.

When you had the drive shaft out did you check the U joints for any slack, roughness, seizure, did you check the slipjoint for smooth operation, properly greased?

If you have a hanger bearing is the rubber tired?

Is the spline at the transmission output too loose?

Everyone has made good troubleshooting suggestions. Your truck is at a mileage where many parts are near the end of their service life, so check them all.

To expound upon aquanaut20's post, grab the driveshaft near the u-joint and shake vigorously. If you detect any play at all, then the u-joints are bad.

Have you ever greased the drive shaft splines?

Also, check the inner & outer tie-rod ends for play. To do this, grab the tie-rod and hold while an assistant wiggles the steering wheel back & forth a small amount. If you feel any clunking, then the tie-rods are worn. Worn tie-rods usually are evidenced by an oscillating steering wheel.

You know, a bent axle could do the same thing. Has it done this since you owned the truck or is it something new?

Not good enough, shaft has to be removed to properly check the joints, if they are seized they will be tight when shaken but still N/S.

The u joints are brand new replaced about 80 miles ago. I figured that was problem but vibiration still there after install. The vibration seems to be comming from the rear so i wouldnt think it would be the tie rods. I dont have a hangar bearing so not an issue their. This only started to occur about at around 100km and seems to be getting worst. AQUANAUT how do you check the slipjoint for smooth operation. Also does anyone know how to check for a bent axel.

thanks guys for replys

rear axle bearings? I am just throwing ideas out there. If there are any good drivetrain shops in your area they should be able to check axles.

my ranger has about 50000 mls and i have the same problem, but not so strong.
it starts with about 55 ends with 60 and start again with 75
but i think that the tires, the front goodyear tires look also very strange, like a stair. i did rebalanced and it is a little bit better.
at some streets it is worse at other streets it is better
next spring i will mount cooper tires and i hope the problem will be past

You said they did a balance, but did they do a standard balance or did they do a road force balance. If the rim is not perfectly round (none are0 and the tire is not perfectly round (none are) and their imperfections are stacked on top of each other, you will get a lot of vibration. Not all shops have a road force balance machine, but I would pursue that option.

The 03 Edge I just bought had a weight knocked the driveshaft. It had the same vibration at 60 & up. I replaced it & it will run up to the limiter with no vibration.
