Wouldn't it make sense that if you take away the exhaust gas that is being routed back into the cylinder then that space would now be filled by air/fuel mixture? More air/fuel mixture in the cylinders = more power?
I removed everything on my 78, and blocked off the egr, I am running a demon 500 carb and she runs awsome on 85 pump gas, I bumped the timeing up to 12 deg. havent had any negative issues with this setup, with the stock 2150 carb I did get some pinging if I got on it hard but that carb was junk anyway.
My truck never had a charcoal canister in it but it did have an egr system at one time - When the PO swapped the engine, he had a new dual exhaust system installed and he transferred the intake manifold (along with egr plate and carb) over from the old engine to the rebuilt shortblock - he blocked the egr port off with a plate... Seems to run just fine without it... There is a vacuum delay valve (at least, I think that's what that is) installed in between the carb and distributor to help with pinging...
thanks for the input on the egr valve, took it off today, man their was so much crap in there was surprised it ran.today one of my friend sold me a 2 barrel holly carb with adapters with gaskets for 20 bucks.sweet deal.will let u know how it runs, remember this is the free trk,so ,well i am smilin
From what I have heard from experts on the matter the only way your gonna make it run better without the smog stuff or the egr is to get a different cam. The cam in the 351M is designed for reduced emissions.
