Hey guys I got a 74 F250 Crew it is in Stamford VT I am in Charleston WV 715 miles apart 1 way. This makes the 2nd shipping co who is trying to get the truck in here with no luck the current shipping co quoted $599 for the move an now says that might be the problem the price is to low they are wanting to know if I want to add $25 to $50 more to it to try to get someone to go after it. I have had it titled in my name since 1st part of Nov. truck has not been on the road since 96 13 years ago. It was just drove around the guys property when he would start it up off an on every so often. An the guy I bought it off of wants it moved before it snows this year. I also no not have access to a truck or anything to tow it with myself. Any ideas what should I do? Can anybody help me?
About the only thing I can offer is to go to a local trucking co. (preferably an independent) and see if they have any drivers going up that way who would be deadheading on the way back.
This reminds me of something. I don't recommend this, but I know a guy who rented a 24' U-haul for three days, drove from eastern TN to south Florida, put two ****** jeeps in the back of the truck, and drove it back to TN no problem. Back in the day, I think it cost him less than $200 for the whole deal. Trucking company wanted $1000, and they were deadheading on the return!
You might could rent a small U-haul and a dolly to do this...depending on what kind of vehicle you have to tow it. Just make sure that whatever you get to pull the dolly is bigger than what you are towing on it. Highway patrol is getting more and more uptight about that...at least around here.

can you not rent a pick-up from uhaul and rent another trailer from an equipment rental place? 650$ is not alot of money for the distance
try uShip.com I am having a complete roof for my 63 F100 sent from GA to me in TX for $145. It's sort of like an auction site. You list what/where/when you want transported and then people bid on the transport to see who can do it the cheapest. I have had GREAT luck so far. The whole thing took less than a day to arrange. If you're just about S.O.L. then it's worth a shot. Good Luck!
Being in trucking myself and having a friend who hauls cars I can tell you that the rate doesn't out of line. Remember that while a crewcab p/u isn't as long as 2 cars it will take up enough space on a portable parking lot (car hauler) to eliminate 2 spots. That being said .83 a mile isn't that bad in trucking terms.
A tow bar and rented F-350 flat bed is what I used to bring a cab (crew cab) and F350 crew cab (complete) from southern Illinois to northeast Kansas. Rented the F350 flat bed from a dealer in Kansas City. Drove it to Illinois. Put the crewcab cab on the flat bed and towed the F-350 CC after dropping the drive shaft. I did buy a portable surge brake for the F350 crew cab but wound up not using it. The f350 flat bed had more than enough stopping power. If the weather gets bad get off the road.
Done the 24 foot U-haul too. make sure the vehicle chocked good. find an appropriate height loading dock at the pickup and drop off points.
I imagin the shorter uhuals and an tow bar would work too.
I dont know anybody with a trailer an worst case I will fly up there an take my chances an drive it back with a 1 way permit. I could rent a uhaul an use a tow dolly would be the only way. Do anyone of you know someone who could go get it?
I just had my F 150 shipped from Illinois to Florida. I called and they picked it up within 48 hours after my first call....
I shopped...and honestly prices were all over the place....basically from what I found shipping vehicles is done through a "networking" system where shipping companies reach out to independant truckers who are in the area and want to do the run. Long story short it costs me about $700 to get it here. $200 to the shipping agent....$500 to the driver. Its alot of money but with a 4X4 with a lift, they got it here quickly 2 days and safely. That said,.....you can shop and try to move it cheap...but from what I learned......cheap prices often times equate to nightmare service and delivery. In case you want it...here is the info / contact on the company that
moved my truck. I would use them again. They communicated well....and "made it happen fast".
