LOG splitter oil and filter

Anyone know about grades(?) of hydraulic oil?
I have hydraulic oil purchased to be used in a hydrostatic New Holland tractor that I think should work fine in my log splitter. Anyone know of any downsides?
What about the filter, I wonder? What makes one oil filter different from another except for diameter, thread size and micron rating of the filter media?
I welcome all thoughts, conjectures, and wild-*** guesses!!

Nevermind. Found the info I needed elsewhere and split some wood this afternoon.

Generally, you can use tractor hydraulic oil in place of standard hydraulic oil like AW32, but not the other way around.

Thanks. That's what I did and split a cord of wood this afternoon.
Works great. Was a real treat running the rebuilt engine. Didn't fog the whole yard like it used to!
