The cable that attaches to the heater control valve, where does it come from? What is it connected to through the firewall? Is is a dash ****? It is somehow connected to the blower motor ****? I had the valve (frozen) on the hose that stems from the manifold (I think) and bypassed it, but there was no cable.
The cable that attaches to the heater control valve, where does it come from?
The deluxe fresh air heater has two cables mounted under the dash to a bracket that is below and just to the right of the dash mounted blower switch.
One cable opens/closes the heater door that allows fresh air to enter the plenum chamber.
The other cable opens/closes the heater water valve that is spliced into the inlet to heater core heater hose.
The economy heater does not have these cables, nor a heater water valve. A manually operated shut-off valve is spliced into the inlet to heater core heater hose.
Both the economy and fresh air heaters were optional, also available as kits at the parts counter. 1965/66 F100/250: 2WD's used different economy & deluxe heaters than 4WD's.
Was there a "high output" heater option on the slicks?
I know ford offered them in 70s and 80s trucks but have never realy understood the idea behind them. Were there more passes for the coolant or was it simply a larger heater core?
Thanks Bill. I see the cable going to the heater plenum, but no cable going through the firewall to the heater valve. Perhaps this valve (that I removed) was part of the engine swap. they took the hoses too my hunch now. I went out and bought a new valve and didn't realize there was no cable. Could mine be the economy heater, with only the ability to move the internal heat lever? This seems like the hot coolant would be coursing through the heater at all times, no?

If you have the economy heater, the only cable present is the combined blower switch/temp control cable, which is 24.75" long. Routes from the dash to the plenum chamber (heater box).
The deluxe heater, besides having the 2 cables (with *****) mounted under the dash, also has a blower switch/temp control cable, but it's 30.25" long. Also routes to the plenum chamber, which is a different type than the economy heater.
I suspect you have the economy heater since there are no underdash cables, no evidence of them being installed.

Applications: 1965/66 F100/1100, 1965/67 N/NT/T500/1000, 1967 F500/1000 / There are a few of these available NOS. Let me know if interested, will post the sources.
Thanks Bill!. Seems like there might be a way to use that dormant choke cable to do the job of turning the switch on from inside the cab, using the inline lever valve. Currently I have the carb plate bypassed and the manifold line is running to the "outside" heater core tube - - waterpump going to inside tube. Is this correct? And which line would receive the valve? manifold line?
