no heat

Hello to all. I have a '96 Eddie Bauer 4 door with 4.0 engine. Last night when we went out the heater only blew cold air. A quick check at the valve on the heater hoses showed me no vacuum reaching the valve. Where does the other end of that vacuum hose originate? I suspect behind the control panel for the automatic climate control. but I do not hear any vacuum leaks.

Were the heater hoses warm? Is it supposed to have vacuum for cold or hot?

One of the heater hoses was warm, the other not. I got the chance to fiddle with it today, and have got it where both hoses are warm, but not putting out much heat. I am going to flush the heater core tomorrow, and see what comes out. I guess that I should have asked if anyone knows where I can find info on how the climate control works. I cannot seem to get it to get vacuum to the switch. I know that I am crazy, but I think that it uses vacuum to shut off the heat. Earlier in the day I could have sworn it was the other way around. There is So much left to learn.

In case anyone is interested, I got it to produce heat by going to Max Air on the control panel and setting the temp control to 90, as well as having the heat control on 90 when pushed on Auto. So I now have it set to maximum at all the locations. I know it is not supposed to work like this, but it has never been one to be able to set it at a specific temp and it use the air or heat as needed.
