Intake Manifold Plenum...

ok so i did think i had an oil leak, cause i had oil runnin over the back of the motor, so i check things over just lookin around and i found that the clamps on the passenger side boots going down into the intakes were loose, they were tight when i tried to use a screw driver, but got out a 1/4 inch drive ratchet and i defintly got more than a couple turns out of the clamps soo i just re tightened the driver side ones also..but could this has been where my oil was coming from possibly?? it would have nothing to do with my exhaust smell in th cab would it?? but if it was leakin enough to mist oil out would that have caused problems with my boost?? there for makin my truck smoke more than it should?? like what problems could these loose clamps cause?? i didnt think it would have anything to do with the diesel fume smell in the cab tho...

The loose clamp could be part of your boost problem, but not fumes in the cab. You need to check and see if your plenums are tweaked as well. The oil is from the crankcase vent the goes into the intake. There are only a couple places you can get exhaust fumes from, like the exhaust manifolds, up-pipes, or down pipe. Look for soot to see where your leak is.

sorry what did you mean by plenums tweaked?? soo if the clamps where actually loose on ths passenger side this would cause oil residue everywhere?? and also cause boost problems?? like i said the clamp was pretty loose could this cause major problems, with oil and boost??

Yes, it could. But only if you have the stock CCV configuration. If you do the CCV mod venting the oily mess to the atmosphere it won't.

lol are you hinting maybe i should do the mod?? cause this boot on the passenger side intake plenum did have some pretty heavy oil residue on it?? i'm just wondering if it was kinda like misting out of the boot and covering everything behind it with an oily residue?? i tightened the clamp as tight as i can get it soo i guess time will tell...if i would make a boost leak detector would it have picked something up like this?? and could this boot actually leak enough to cause a leak down over the motor?

Looking at his sig Joe, he doesn't have the CCV mod done. It is plausible that the oil is coming from his loose boot. Now that you got that boot tightened up, clean everything up and see if you are still getting oil everywhere. We'll help you get this narrowed down.

ok thanx man, i'd love to get together sometime with all you guys, i'm slowing learning this powerstroke stuff i've had my truck for a year and have defintly learned alot but theres room for some more improvement..soo since i tightened the boot up your suggesting clean everything up and see what happens....but both them clamps being loose could cause that much oil mist to cover everything?? and actually drip down to the ground?? what about boost?? could i be loosing that much?

That would be my suggestion. Clean it all up and see if you are still getting oil mist. I'm not sure if you would get THAT much oil for it to drip, but someone will be along to offer some more solutions. Do you know what kind of boost #'s you are seeing now vs. when you had some loose boots?

If those boots on the spider were leaking it would gradually accumulate in the valley then leak down the back. Get some simple green and spray down the valley area and wash with a garden hose when the engine is cold. Do you have a boost gauge? Easy to see before and after if you do. For the exhaust leak, another place to check is your ebp sensor tube that goes down to your passenger side exhaust manifold. These are know to break and cause exhaust leaks. There is a write up on Guzzle's page on cleaning the sensor if you don't know the location. It's in front of the HPOP reservoir.

soo the oil and boost problems i've been thinkin i'm having could defintly be related to these loose clamps on the passenger side intake plenum?? i'm not talkin the passenger side intercooler boot, i'm talkin about the passenger intake plenum boot, the boot thats down in the vallel, idk what the correct name for it is...but this could be some of my problems ive been havin with boost and oil??

I would say it would almost certainly be your boost problem.
