Boost/Turbo problem

hello all,
I went to start my truck this morning and when i pulled out i noticed the odd sound. its deffientaly a turbo/ boost leak sound. its like a realy low pitch wine, kinda like a soft Whooooooooo. the pitch increases with engine rmp. also the boost level has gone down, on 80 Eco i only hit 20 and it takes forever to get there and my egt's will hitt 1200 at WOT.
i checked all the intercooler tube boots, all are tight. just from looking every thing seems to look tight. its gotta be what the problem is but i dont have time to pull it apart tonight. thought i would ask yal for a quick and easy fix before work tomorrow . thanks

Build a boost leak finder. I will save you so much time and effort.

You just go to Home Depot and get a 4 inch piece of flexible rubber, cap to cap the other side of the rubber, an air nipple and an air gauge. Then you just just connect it to your turbo and add air till you hear a hissing noise and presto you found your leak

alright i made the leak detector and hooked it up. opened the regulator to 10 psi. so i hear hissing coming from the turbo, and when i walk around and listen the the exhaust i can hear air hissing...... seems like the bearings might be bad.. what do yal think? thanks

Eric have you pulled the spider off the turbo at all lately? I had a misalignment on the front of the turbo to the spider it looked ok but when it got hot it opened up and leaked.

Check the turbo for play in the bearings by wiggling it back and forth and in and out.

Eric as far as I know thats way to much in and out play. I think there should be none.

If you have .050 end play the wheel should be hitting the housing, thus giving an odd sound and loss of boost

yea it is giving a odd sound. still not hitting the housing though. does any body know what could cause this? truck only has 76,000 miles on it. i got a DP tuner and its been on for about 3 weeks now. on 120r i was hitting 25. went to start it one morning and dropped to 18.

Have you checked to make sure that your wastegate is not sticking open?

Time for a rebuild. You can do it yourself for about $100 with simple hand tools. There is a step-by-step procedure on Guzzle's page. However, be aware that air from your tester can make it through to the exhaust through the valves.

pulled the turbo out today. waste gate wasnt stuck. i got about 600 bucks to spend on it. 100 for rebuild so the other 5 i could use to free some flow up. what would be the best thing to buy for 500 bucks? thanks
