I have a 1962 Mercury M100.(Canadian made F100). I was looking to find out why there is a lock on the passenger door but not the driver side door. Was this a standard thing for trucks from this era?

Welcome to FTE
You have a Standard Cab. Custom Cabs came with lock cylinders in both doors after 1951.
For decades, most cars/trucks from all the automakers did not come with left door lock cylinders. Ppl slid over the front seat, exited the passenger side.
This was because...back then...most streets had no painted center dividing lines.
The automakers didn't want ppl (their potential customers!) standing out in this hodge-podge of traffic locking/unlocking a left door lock cylinder.
