Just chiming in with the exact same problem. I have not started to physically look at what could be the problem yet. If you get a no kidding solution, please post it.
If the water line into the heater core is hot, and the dash board in diagnostics mode indicate engine warm (at proper temp) and ditto for temp gauge, then it is the heater core / flaps, vacuum motors that is your culprit.
You do need a winterfront if you operate on short trips and cold weather.... tell us your ambient temp.. and so on for more info.
Went out this morning and checked the Anti-freeze level this morning, sure enough it was low. Way low as it turns out. I put the gallon that I had in my truck in it and the heat came on right away. It was still low so went and picked some up and topped her off. Working like a champ.
Little concerned about the loss of anti-freeze now. I know it will puke some from time to time under heavy load. I did not realize it was almost 2 full gallons worth though. Tuck never got hot but, now I notice the guage barely comes off of the bottom after adding the anti-freeze. Seems like last winter it was about in the middle of it's range...maybe not though.
Anyway, just wanted to post my problem and now the fix for it.
Good luck with your truck and let us know how it turns out.

Just be aware that significantly low antifreeze levels can contribute to VERY increased corrosion, depletion of the coolant protection, and solids formation.
Certainly the cause of the loss of fluid is the primary thing, but it is just as important to flush the system and fill with new coolant QUICKLY after the leak is found and corrected.
If the leak is in the EGR cooler, it can lead to engine hydrolocking (very expensive) and can contribute to head gasket failure.
