sloppy shifter help?

sloppy shifter help?
my 01 5.4 expedition has 92,000 miles and now it seems that the shifter is very sloppy. once in gear is shifts perfectly but trying to get the shifter selecter in gear in once again sloppy is there a worn bushing in the stearing column or somewhere else that could be the problem?
