1994.5 powerstroke
Anyone experienced or repaired a sloppy shifter? Even in gear there seems to be a lot of extra movement.Easy fix??
Thanks for any help.
Jake
No direct experience with it, but I don't remember seeing any "adjustments" that can be made in the shifter, nor did it look terribly easy to get under the socket.
You are talking about the five speed right, not an auto shifter?
If I remember right, (it's been a long time since I've been into a ZF5) there are two plastic bushings (one on each pivot leg) on the sides of the shifter lever, that slide into slots in the top of the tranny. These may be worn, and causing play.
To check them, put the trans in neutral, lift up the edge of the rubber shifter boot and take out the four phillips screws, pull the boot up and remove the two upper shift lever retaining bolts, set it aside, remove the four allen head bolts from the shift control housing, and lift off (have paper or plastic down in case of drips), check the bushings for wear. About a 10 min. job.
