351C advice

Howdy fellas'. Im a newbie when it comes to the 335 series motors. Im hoping you guys can shed some light on the issues I keep hearing about.

I have a '73 351C 2V out of a Mercury Montego MX. The engine runs, but has low oil press. at idle. Im planning on doing a full rebuild on it anyways. Im wanting to build it & put it in my '71 F-100. Im going to try & keep it as original as possible, but I would like to put a few "speed" parts on it.

Here are my plans for it:

.30 over (at the most)
comp 268 cam
4bbl intake
autolite 4100 carb (1.08 venturi)

So, its going to be basically stock, less the cam. What about the oiling issues on a near stock motor that will NEVER see over 4500 rpm ?? Are they still needed ? The car had well over 100k on it when I got it & it had just developed the low oil press. issue.

I am open to anything you guys have on the 351C.

Thanks

I wouldn't bother. You should chamfer the oil holes in the crank though.

I would change the bearing, oil pump, timing chain and match the spring with the cam and lifter. Give a call to TMeyer inc for your parts, he's the guy to talk for the 335 series.

I rebuilt my 351C and installed a new Melling high volume oil pump. It has excellent oil pressure and I have not had any oil problems at all.

Cool. Thanks guys. Im just a little worried about spending the coin on this motor & not doing any of the pre mentioned mods. The car this motor came out of was really ragged on all of its life, & with well over 100k on the clock, I would say the factory oiling system held up pretty good considering it just developed the low oil pressure problem about 6 months ago.

At any rate, I have it out of the car & in my shop, waiting on a rebuild !
