429 build help
429 build help
First off the engine is out of a 71 thunder bird its a 429 .030 over getting forged TRW flat top pistons that a are supposed to produce 10.5 to 1 CR with dove c heads which are the heads on it now. Full balance and moly rings. Dual plane intake and headman headers. So now I've got to figure out what to do with the heads and cam. I want to keep the dove c's but I'm not sure how much it would cost to get a little more power out of them. I was planning on porting the exhaust side myself and leaving the intake side alone and probably keep the OEM style rockers as if I understand correctly I wouldn't gain enough power from going to roller to consider the cost. My question is how much power could be gained by going to bigger valves insteaded of just having a 3 angle job done with the stock ones. How much would it cost to go bigger? Also what cam would be the best for this set up. RPM will be below 6k and I would prefer to go with a hydraulic lifter set up. The engine its self will live out its days in a f100 short box mated to a c6 with 2500 stall and 373s out back. I want to get good power from it but what's asking to much? Is 450-500 a good goal? will the mildly ported dove heads fall short? Any advice would be great. I know someone out there had built something similar and I'd love to hear you combo and how it works. I'm on somewhat of a budget so cost is a big concern. Also the rod bolts will be upgraded and will be using a standered mellings oil pump. Just a weekend toy that will hurt a few peoples feelings but limited strip time mostly burning tire and cruising. Thanks y'all
OK after looking at a few cam's that people are running with the dove heads l find my self looking at the lunati voodoo pn# 61603. From what I understand people are running these with mildly ported doves and a stealth intake with headers with great success. Unfortunately I have not been able to find any dyno numbers but this cam falls in my rpm range pretty well. I would like to compair the lunati to a comp extreme energy but I personal have always had good luck with lunati products. Not to say they are better but just my own experience.
