5.8L piston direction

I am rebuilding my 88 5.8L and got the crank in and the front two pistons and tqed them to 45 pounds. Now i cant turn the motor over. I could before by hand. I put the pistons in with the notch forward is this correct? Im putting them back into the same location they came out of just not sure if the notch is facing the right way. I dont want to really yank on it hard if there is something wrong. Im just doing a rering kit on it.

The notch goes towards the front of the motor.

You have the bearings lubricated?
Did you also fit new bearings?

New bearings.. figured. Did you have the crank and rods checked and machined as necessary? If the motor has some miles on it then some minor machine work will be necessary on the big end of the rods to make them perfectly round again so they don't pinch the new bearing. It doesn't hurt to have the crank checked out as well, it doesn't take much wear to create an oil pressure problem.

Having the rods resized is a good idea, but if you're going to do that, then have the machine shop install new rod bolts.
If the crank journals are clean and smooth, in most cases, you can install new main bearings and go. What kind of measuring equipment do you have access to; dial indicator, calipers?

Wrong bearings

If you torqued the caps onto the rods with the undersize bearings there is a very good chance that you elongated them. Best to check them over very carefully or get those two, at least, resized.

have your machine shop check everything out and order what you need. this takes all the guess work out of it.
