390 Piston direction

So I'm rebuilding my 390, I got new pistons and these have a little notch on one side. The old pistons had a indent on one side that did face toward the timing chain side. Does the notch face the timing chain side also? I want to know the correct way to install them in the engine. The only mark that is the same between each piston is by the piston pin there is a "F" stamped in it.

Also the connecting rod has the number stamped on the side of the rod and cap, this side faces away from the other bank of cylinders when installed, right? That is how they were when I took them out but I want to make sure that is the correct way. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

The notch or some had a arrow on the piston faces the front of your motor towards the timing chain.face The numbers on your rods face away from the other bank of cylinders so your doing it right. Numbers to outside of block.

That's good to hear, I guess I can get this thing back together now.

Another note on the con rod orientation. The notch in the cap needs to face up towards the cam since oil squirts out of it to lube the cam lobes.

Yes that would make sense because the numbers would face away from it, and that end would face toward it.
