on my 93 i got those round motor mounts. and found out in like 95-96 they switched back to the rectangle. can i switch mine to the rectangle size? do i have to change the brackets on the frame? if i can at all?

u can switch back to the biscut style by using the frame brackets. those round ones are junk. i went through 5 or 6 or 7 of em on my truck since i have it (2002)

I was looking at building a set of solid mounts for my 300. Either that or build some kind of cage style mount. The stock mounts aren't very tough I ripped the driver's side mount in half on my 96 F150 by dumping the clutch a little too hard.

I had gotten fed up with ripping threw motor mounts on my 86 300 (the square ones), so I had welded 3 3/8" bolts through them, well I ripped/broke the bolts in half in about a week. So I ended up taking 3 small pieces of 5/16" chain, about 4 links each and welded the end links on each side of the mount, this way it wasn't solid, but it can't rip away either, it can prolly lift the left side of the motor about a 1/4". I haven't done this on the right side due to it not really causing a problem, but lately I've noticed when I'm rodding the thing around and trying to shift fast I'll miss 3rd b/c my shifter/transmission will move over 3" on me, so I prolly wrecked another tranny mount. When I swap this motor into a 78 chassis/drivetrain I'm gonna go with the chains on the passenger side to and fab a different tranny mount, although the older mated 4wd setup's w/ the NP205 had a extra mount on the transfer case making it more solid, so maybe I'll see how it works.

AMEN! Redneck-Cowboy,back in the day,all of us muscle car guys used "torque chains",and when you come off the line with that left front tire 6" in the air,you knew they were working! Pontiacs were bad for breaking the left motor mount, the 389's and 400's had a lot of low end torque. The early '60s,when you stepped on it at the light, the engine would tear off the left mount, pull the power brake and steering hoses off,ram the fan into the guard and stick the gas pedal to the floor. It was a wild ride until you got the key turned off! That right mount doesn't do much except give the engine a pad to push on.You can run them from a spot on the frame to a good spot on the motor, sometimes we even welded a turnbuckle in for adjustment, then take 'em out and stomp on 'em a few times to get the stretch out and then readjust so as to leave just enough play for the mount to take the viberation out.If I was doing a lot of hard torque with my 300,I would do it too,I may anyway. You will find that when you do that, the trans mount will tend to stay better also, you won't have that angled twist on it so much.I guess some tricks never go obsolete.
