i also just switched from valvoline premium blue extreme synthetic to schaeffers 9000 synthetic. if you order 2 cases of 6 gallons you can get it for about 20 bucks a gallon instead of the 30 a gallon of the valvoline. plus you can get schaeffers oil analysis things for 5 bucks....
Rotella Synth. 5w-40 also all year long. I won't switch back.
X3, I got my truck in Feb this year and changed the oil in march. I put in the Rotella syn and noticed an immediate difference in sound, much quieter, and better, quicker starts. If I ever change it would only be to go with Schaeffers to give it a try since so many have had such good experiences with it.
I run syn Rotella all year as well. Won't ever go back to dino unless it's my last resort.
If you want to convince yourself, put a quart of each in your freezer for a day or so, then take 'em out and see what the look like when you try to pour them. Then think about your HPOP trying to pump it up to 500psi at idle, and 2000+ or more when you take off. Thought provoking!
I started my truck this morning when it was 21.3*F. It wasn't plugged in. It started effortlessly and ran great. Delo 15W40.

Plug the block heater in and it won't matter what oil is in there.
The block heater doesn't directly heat the oil in the pan. Sure it'll warm up some, but the whole point is NOT having to plug in. I live in TX -- I shouldn't need to. Delo is actually what I tried, and had to dump early. Romps & noisy when cold (for Texas -- ~35 degrees).
