starter relay question

Ive been trying to figure out what the "S" and "I" termales are. Ive i was told that the I is for your coil during the cranking it sends extra voltage to help start the motor over. Can any one help me on this. thanks

That's correct. The when voltage is applied to the "s", the solenoid will click and connect the two large terminals together, which will apply power to the starter. When the solenoid is activated, 12v appears on the "i" terminal, and on the older trucks this applies a full 12v to the coil + for better starting in cold weather.

thank you for your reply. I am hoping now this is why i am not getting a good spark to my coil. one last question is the wire that goes from the I termale used with a resistance wire or something?

It goes directly to the coil +, ahead of the resistance wire. So it's main purpose is to bypass the resistor during cranking.
