hey guys, ive got a very severe case of chiggers!!! im talkin like ankles and the bottum half of legs completely red from chiggers and their bites! whats the best thing to do? i need fast help, thanks.
This may sound strange.....
Rinse the affected areas with bleach. It really works. You can also use clear nail polish on each bite. I usually just use bleach.
oh man that's terrible. our area is really tick infested I used to get several off me every day. In the summer, there are fewer. I wonder if chickens eat them.
Man, we got chiggers bad in Texas, I use vinegar, just pour some on a rag and wipe yourself down, let it stay on for just a minute and shower off. Burns kinda bad sometimes, depending on how long you been scratching. May have to reapply the next day, but usually not a third time.
hope this helps ya
I have found nothing works on chiggers except for an ice cube. Especially, if they are in a sensitive area. I've tried gas, vinger, nail polish, etc. I must taste pretty good to them because none of that stuff worked. If their bad enough, a ice cube will slow 'em down a bit. Wait 5 days (which is forever sometimes) and they're gone. The colder you make them, the less annoying they are.
I'm with AlabamaBronco, use the bleach. If there are just a few, I use a "Q-tip" and apply to each. I guess if they are that bad, it would be quicker to "rinse" w/bleach, then take a bath. Good Luck!
My grandma uses bacon grease on chigger bites and it really works. She says to put it on as soon as possible, so if you have waited a long time it may not work.
This reminds me of when the family went to Vicksburg. The famous Civil War grounds. My sister and I sat on cannons that are still in the fields. Then, stupid me rolled in the grass, being goofy for my younger sister. Then, I experienced chiggers.
I have sympathy for you!!! It itches like crazy~!!!
Try calomine lotion. Or use benadryl for the antihistamine to calm the itching.
I tried everything one summer a few years ago, them took a q-tip and dabbed a LITTLE gasoline on each bite. Let it stay on for a few minutes then got a bath. I believe it killed them instantly. Stay away from flames, that would be worst than the chiggers, then again maybe not! I know gasoline is not good for you but it was the lesser of two evils at the time.
Funny, when I was a kid , I used to live in the woods and was not bothered by chiggers (I did pick off a bunch of ticks). Last summer my son and I visited the old place and were eaten alive by chiggers. We used nail polish but it took a while to get back to normal. Next time I'll remember the tips in this thread.

Last time I had 'em, I picked at the 'sore' with a needle until some puss or liquid would come out, then put drops of rubbing alcohol in there. Burns like hell but they don't itch anymore after that.
