Was that what it cost you or is that whay the glass company billed the insurance? We just had one put in a work truck, didnt have the super duty lettering on it for $200
The superduty windshield is a little under a hundered over the plain windshield. When I had mine replaced I got the one with the superduty logo and insurance would only pay for the plain as that was what my truck had before. I had to pay the difference.
When I bought my truck back in May, It had a good size chip in the windshield. I told the dealer I want a new windshield. They wanted to fix it. I won that fight but they wanted a replacement shield. I wanted factory glass with the super duty logo on it. They said the SD logo made the windshield weaker and the aftermarket was stronger. I said I'll take my chances and won that fight.
Now is there any truth to that the aftermarket is better or was I fed some prime grade B.S?
That's nutty. I had a new windshield put in my 2007 F250 a few months ago- $275 and they did it in my driveway, used Autolite glass, said I could ask for PPG if I wanted.
I just got a quote for PPG replacement, no logo, for $231 installed. With logo was around $380 installed. $679 sounds kinda steep, but then again, my truck is a 2000 vs 2008. That's probably the difference.
Sounds like the glass company is ripping the insurance off, rather typical when you go through insurance instead of buying it yourself. Unless they are different from '05 those windshield are half that price or less.
Yeah for sure, if you had walked in there to pay for it out of your pocket it would have been less then 3 bills.. I had a windshield put in a pile-o-chit 84 ranger under my insurance, they charged over $900!!!!!! The truck wasnt worth $300 Buddy had one put in his ranger and paid cash and was like $190 installed. Same truck, same glass. No wonder our insurance rates are rediculous.

The general consensus out in the market is that the factory ones are stronger. They just didn't want to pay more for the superduty label on top. Now that said, most of the american made brands are pretty much the same compared to the offshore types.
The reason for the insurance price is because they set that price. Set install time, set glass price, set materials and so forth. You can do it like this and still make money on the install if you work at it. Just like the prices for the repair work on collisions. Now most glass shops will have that insurance price if you so choose to go that route, and the private price if you choose to go that route. Some will even charge you the same either route you take. On some cars the set price that they pay is even less than the price the glass shop pays to get the part to their shop, and have no controll over that.
The big part that gets me is, the wreckers set their prices according to the insurance prices, and we pay WAY to much from them for any parts. Used door glass is the worst.
Sorry for the winded response but I'm a glass installer and see this first hand.
and he threw in a $14.50 state inspection for free...
With what they charged the insurance company for the windshield, they could afford to throw in the $14.50 state safety inspection.
If you would have asked them they would have most likely covered the $50 deductible at no charge.
Anyone know where I could get a Super Duty logo for my windshield just the logo?
Its in the glass, not something you can add other then putting a decal on it. Mine has it, I just assumed all SD's had it like the mustangs have the running horse, guess not.
