I have a 1995 aero with 4 wheel drive and a 4 liter. Lent it out and the engine was run without coolant . Pretty sure the head gaskets are blown. I found a replacement 4 liter from a 92 explorer and wondered if it would swap in. Will the bolt pattern match, computer, mounts, etc? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.
I would think it would be easier to rebuild the engine you have now. The head gaskets can be done without removing the engine. It is a lot of work, but so is and engine swap. That being said, there is a sticky on the top page that walks you through pulling the engine from the front.
Yes, the '92 engine will be the same, you may have to swap manifolds, and some other stuff off your old engine, but the block and head is the same.
where is it, PLEASE???
I am TRYING to find out anything I can about swapping out My aerostar's engine- and there you posted it would be found in a stickie!!!

Dear KHAN , could you please give me the referencepage you spoke about
for the GUIDE to SWAPPING OUT AN AEROSTAR ENGINE,...PLEASE???
The Need is A.S.A.P. ...food on the table and all that.
Thank You!
I would start with removing the hood and the front grill and bumper cover. The top plate over the radiator can be removed to create an opening. Disconnect everything from the engine, such as the transmission and all the front accessories and brackets, hoses, cables, linkages, and the intake manifolds.
The trick is to then attach the engine crane in such a way to get enough lift in the engine compartment to pull it out the front.
Otherwise, you will have to disconnect the front crossmember with the engine and raise the front end high enough to clear the engine for you to roll it out. I think one of the members of this forum has done that as well. They used large pieces of lumber to hold up the body.
