I need to buy tires for my 96 f250. Im gonna stick w/the stock steelies, but not sure about the tires....

235 85 16

how much bigger can I get away w/?

Im personally torn between 3 -

goodyr wrangler mt/r w/kevlar

BF mudterrains

SS thornbirds

the thorns are the only one that doenst have my fitment... so Im not sure about those. I dont really need bigger tires, but thinkin theyd look cool as hell.

I go in the mud sometimes, but Ill be plowing more than anything once the snow hits.

.........what do yall think?

Personally, I would get the BFG Mud Terrains. Im running the BFG All terrains and have no complaints. As for tire size... If Its 4X4 you can go up to 285's without major modification, I had 315's on stock suspension with a bumper shim, before I lifted my truck.

X3 on the BFG. But if you are not gonna be muddin all the time, IMO the BFG AT grips better in snow and ice.

Not sure what type you should get, but definantly go with the 285/75/16. I put them on my truck and it makes it look a lot better.

265/75R-16 are a little shorter that the 235's are. Not much, but a little. The 265's are obviously wider though. 285's might need to shim the bumper from what I have recently read. I personally like Cooper tires. If you haven't checked them out.

Their ATR's are a real good tire for everyday driving, and great in snow.

Their ST's are more aggressive, but good in snow, a little noisy on the road.

Their STT's are super aggressive, muck like their Dick Cepeks they make.

If you only go muddin every now and then and will be driving in snow and ice I would definately go with All Terrains.
I have had BFG's on my truck since it was new. I would not get anything else. Far more of a superior tire than the other guys.
Also the AT's have alot of siping, and that is what gives you traction on ice/snow. The mud terrains don't have any.

Go with BFG AT's 285/75-16 and don't look back. Trust me, you will be satisfied for sure.

well since you asked for opinion! bfg tires are about the worst tire made. but that is my opinion, I am running AT's right now, rotated every 5,000 miles and each time they are from 2 to 6 ounces out of ballance. i have run general, toyo, Michelin, bridgstone, Firestone good year and hankook and never had to change the weights more than 1 ounce. thees tires have 15,000 miles on them and bounce, vibrate and pull. with all the other tires I have run I didn't have to hold the steering wheel on a strait road. with these at's I cant even let go for a second.
the only reason I have them is I bought them for 1/3 price of new when my brother in law traded his obs in.
the firs set of at's I had was on my wife's pathfinder they didn't even have 30,000 miles on them and were at 2/32 tread.
But this is just my opinion, my brother in law will run nothing but the at's.

the bfg mud terrain is an excellent tire. only prob is they changed teh rubber compund due to moron customer complaints and now they were fast. my old school set of bfg mud terrain km's got over 70k before i replaced them, my replacement set of at's got only 20-25k before they were shot. the at and mt are the same rubber compound, only the tread is different..

i liek the mt's better but they are a little noiser then the at's. its all about prefference. offroad the at's are useless and the mt's are unstoppable. i have done more then my fair share of extreme offroading and the mt's handle incredible.
i have not run the newest mud terrains that they have out, only the km's

285/75-16's for sure... SHouldn't have to change anything. I have them on my stock 2wd truck and no issues.

The Wranglers are supposed to be pretty good. I would stay away from the Thornbirds.
