For my 500th post, I will take the time to talk about the sad people crowding Memphis at this time. They spent all night, in the pouring rain, subjected to muggers, and worse, holding candles in memory of a man Memphis ignored until he died. And then it took 2 years to get started. Elvis has made far more money dead than he ever did alive, which is a little silly. I never enjoyed any of his music when I was younger, and unlike the Rolling Stones, his efforts did not grow on me. I still don't like his music. I repect the people who like it, though I cannot understand why so many people should come to Memphis and stand in the pouring rain, with a candle in their hands. Why for Elvis, why not for someone else.. What had Elvis got that created so loyal a following? Is there no explanation for such devotion. Personally I think that such is too morbid for me, They save all year just to come to Memphis and cry a lot. That is a little toooooo odd. Many tearful fans swear they will be back next year, even if it does cost so much. I should sell my house to someone who will turn it into an Elvis shrine, competing with Graceland. I have land for a parking lot, and it is pretty certain that Elvis did actually drive past the roadend at some time, so that should count for something

To be quite honest I don't understand the Elvis thing. Okay, Fred Astair ( I probably spelled it wrong), could dance. I mean he made it look easy. Could I watch him for hours? No. But he was great. Elvis made people swoon when he sang. Great, but I won't watch him on TV or buy his music. It just doesn't work for me. Nothing against the man but there are only a couple of people that come to mind that I would make the effort to really see. Both are dated prior to AD.
Elvis...................he did a lot for rock and roll but he just doesn't reach me. And when you come right down to it I don't understand the love affair with the man.
My wife used to tell me stories about the Memphis Mob -
It seemed from what she said that Elvis could do pretty much whatever he wanted. But I take that with a grain or two of sand...
I wonder though what could happen if I keep on writing, possibly becoming popular some day.
I've never tried banana and Jalapeno sandwiches - but they could catch on, who knows? And then again I could get a bigger place and name it "Greaseland" & charge people to come in and look at the weird stuff I built out of spare parts...
Nah! I'd never be able to go fishing or bike riding again without a security patrol!
