Sorry - I should have clarified a bit more - the PTO powered hydraulic one was what I was talking about. You can remotely mount the pump, etc. and it's easier to run the hydro lines than a driveshaft.

Bringing back a old post here. I have a 77 F250 with a pto mounted in the bed. Pto mounted to 435 trans. I have been considering going to a c6. How well will the pto work with a auto vs the manual trans. Is it as safe I know now if I need to stop the winch I can clutch it and stops immediately. Just looking for pros and cons for a auto trans and PTO. Every one I've seen around here always has a manual trans. I know I would have to change the gear to fit the t-case on pto box.

I'm not saying its impossible but I don't think I ever seen a C6 with a PTO setup on it.

I think he's meaning use the PTO off the NP205, not hooking a PTO directly to the C6.

Box will be put on my 205 t case. Really just wondering about winching with a auto trans instead on my np435. really just stopping the winch safety wise. I know I just clutch it and winch stops instant. I do allot of off road recovery here. I also do mud bogs and would like a auto just for the fact of being able to hit 2nd gear.

I had looked at pto driven hydraulic pumps for a hydraulic winch a while back, but for the time at least, decided against it due to cost. A hydraulic winch of the same rating as an electric was about the same price, but with hydraulic you had to buy a pump and lines too. The other downside is, if your truck isn't running, neither is your winch. Offroad, that could suck. That being said, if I found the right deal, I'd probably do it anyway!
I've also be considering hydro assist steering and was thinking about using a hydraulic pump mounted on the t-case or trans to drive it. Haven't really thought that one through though.

Winch is already in truck and working. Just concindering going with an autoDouble Lake Recreation Area Really just want to know how well it will work with an auto. Already have a pto box. Not concerned wit it working if truck dies. have a 12k elect in the front.

I have been wondering about the auto thing as well. I can't find much, poking around the internet, except that the auto can be finicky because of 1) windmilling at idle, and 2) getting PTO drive because of torque converter slippage.

If you do use it with a c6, please post up actual use results, because most of what I have found has been from naysayers that have never used a pto, just what they have "heard"

C6 PTO

I will be doing the same thing soon with the exception of mine will be pto off of 205 with a C6, the pto will be direct coupled to hydraulic pump. Parts are ordered curious as to how well it will work as well.
I'm no transmission expert but if I spin the tranny with the 205 in neutral it takes forever for the 205 to stop spinning enough to engage the transfer case without it grinding. I think if there is any loss in the torque converter I'll just step on the gas. If the converter will send enough power to spin 33 inch tires it should send enough to the pump in 3rd gear.
I need to figure out the rpm of the pump in each gear to avoid exceeding 3000, if that's possible. PTOs for 205s are everywhere, I used a muncie off of my 93 F350 and ordered a new input gear for the 205. It's an easy gear swap and any pto supplier can get the gear for you.
I'm not smart enough to engineer any of this stuff I just do it and see what happens. I'll post results after it's all put together.

hooking up my ramsey

i just procured an 8000 # ramsey winch and wanna hook it up to my np235 transfer. i have the gear box and winch, but lack the pto. 2 questions... besides the pto, hydraulic pump and motor, what else do i need to complete this install. and 2.... does anyone out there have engineering pictures/drawings i can go by? i use the truck for hauling firewood on my land and am looking to make life a little easier. i built a wood backbody and i'm looking to mount the winch above the rear axle but below the bed. the cable will come thru the bed and over a log arch. any insight will be greatly appreciated....

Bump on a old thread.

I think I found a 70`s f350 ,2wd np435 tranny that has abigger 32 Spline output over a normal 28 Spline which I have.
But it also has a pto drive on it as well! Sounds like a killer setup.guy wants $150.
My clutch had a growling noise that I suspected was a throwout bearing.turns out the bearing retainer sleeve broke, the guide for bearing snapped at base.I've always had an eye out for one of these unit and this is my perfect opportunity.
Got me thinking of a pto winch or running a killer onboard air
