np 435 pto
i have a 1966 ford f350 flat bed with a np435 trans. , i am mounting a pto winch in the bed . does the pto have to be shimmed on the trans for clearance issues or do i put the gasket on and bolt up the pto. i surly don't want to tear anything up!!!!!!!. i learned to install studs because bolt won't work.

Don't know about the 435 but every PTO I've installed on early model bronco's (Dana 20 T-cases) had to be shimmed to get it correct.
You could probably get away with being a little "loose" (too shallow a gear mesh) though it would compromise the strength, but you definitely don't want to be too "tight" (too deep a mesh).
