UPLIFTER SWITCHES
I am seeking assistance in the overall installation of uplifter switches for the above truck. All but the actual outlet has been factory installed. I have 4 toggle switches in the dashboard (AUX 1- 30AMP, AUX 2-30 AMP, AUX 3- 10 AMP AND AUX 4- 15AMP).
Since I want to operate an electrical device, I will need a receptacle with proper ratings, what receptacles are available or have been used? Where can one purchase this item?
Additionally, my Owner's Manual refers to Relays 1 - 4 and depicts a vertical diagram with relay 4 at the top, then relay 3 below and so on....Is this simply referring to the leads below and to the left of the sterring column or something other?
Thanks,
The relays are what the switches control. The switches are low amp equipment that control higher amp hardware (the relays). If you added the switches without adding the relays, you have a little more work to do.
Once all of the switches and relays are in place, the leads near the steering column are where you connect accessories for the switches. Those combined with the firewall passthrough wires, can get you anywhere you want to go.
First, they are called "upfitter switches", NOT uplifter switches. Not trying to be picky about spelling, but knowine the correct name will help you search for info.
Are these upfitter switches already installed by the factory? Or are you trying to install them yourself?
Lastly, a "receptacle" is not usually used for these. They are wired directly into various different electrical devices.
Thank you for the correction! Yes. UPFITTER SWITCHES is our correct subject matter. The upfitter switches (AUX 1 -4) and insulated wire leads were factory installed, but as for the relay I just don't know.
Ultimately, I want the ability to operate a drill, rotohammer, charge a laptop computer or generally have the ability to operate other electrical devices from my truck. I do not anticipate hard wiring any of these devices permanantly to the truck.
If the upfitter switches are typically used for hard wired accessories, what then should be used or you recommend to operate the aforementioned tools etc?
Thanks
If you want more current capacity that the rating of a particular switch, you'll need to provide your own high current relay, and just turn that relay on with the upfitter switch.
To run the tools you mentioned, which I assume are 120 VAC, you will need a power inverter. There have been threads here in the past about inverters, so try a search for that term. You might get some ideas.
Pull out the glove box and look up under to the top right of the dash. You should see the relay box. You could also look behind the Upfitter swithes and see the factory harness. If your looking for a 12 v outlet to connect to these their available at most Electronic or audio stores. You can wire one or two of these to the upfitters. The aux 1 and 2 switches have the higher current capability if you need it. If your tools are 120v you will need an inverter. Below are a couple of sites for ideas but their are hundreds if you google.
