Upgrading HPOP

I know I am getting a little ahead of myself here, but I gotta ask before I forget.

(Mike, I'm takin good care of your turbo don't worry. Clay, I'm puttin in that overtime. I need that dang van turbo!)

Anyways, what are one's options for upgrading the stock HPOP? I've heard great thing about the Adrenaline, but not sure I wanna spend that kind of money keeping the stock sticks for the time being. More specifically, what can I do to get the most from the stock sticks?

Thanks gents!

Have you done any data logging with your stock pump? If your pump is healthy, you probably don't need to upgrade your hpop. Especially if you decide to get hybrids. The only reason that I'm going to upgrade mine, is because it is a 15*. I'm waiting for Terminator to finish testing the T1 before I decide which one I want.

Not much you can do on the stock one except maybe send it to Joey at Terminator and have it modded. But I would wait until you get ready for injectors and then go from there.

Actually, if I were keeping stock sticks, I WOULD upgrade the pump to take full advantage of the stock splits. They are some oil-thirsty buggers! My ICP was dropping to 1800 or even a little below before I went to hybrids. Now I'm holding 2700-2800 psi. If you can hold that kind of ICP on the stockers, you should be in the 330-340 rwhp range. Mine was dropping quite low, so I was "only" getting to 310ish. But Huck is right -- if you can see your ICP, check it in stock tuning. If you can hold 2600 minimum, it's good. I was actually holding 2700ish in stock, so Bob & I decided I didn't need the Adrenaline. I'm all good with that decision!

Joe is right, stock split shots require more oil than some singles and even hybrids. The only way to get the most out of the stock injectors is to have an HPOP that can keep up with demand, since oil is the ultimate limiting factor. However, even upgraded injectors that require less oil can still benefit from an upgraded HPOP (such as a faster ramp-up of ICP pressure when demanded). So if you're planning bigger injectors later, then a beefier HPOP will be beneficial.

Stock injectors can come alive with an upgraded HPOP and some tuning tweaks. On my truck, I'm running a Termy dual HPOP setup with stock injectors, and it's an outstanding towing truck with lots of power in the upper RPM band. Before upgrading the HPOP, it would dwindle on power in the upper range. With the combination of the pumps and tuning changes, I got probably a good 50 rwhp out of it.

As for the Adrenaline, I've recently been on a ride-a-long with some data logging, and so far, it's holding the pressures that it needs to keep up with stock injectors (and was a big improvement over the stock pump). I was a skeptic before having never seen it in person (and the fact that it's still relatively new), but now I've seen first hand that it can do what it's supposed to.

The modded Terminator pump is another good choice. Folks who have run that have had good luck with it.

Talk with Bob at Dieselsite about the Adrenaline, and Joey at Terminator about the modded pump. Both are good folks to deal with, and both pumps work great and are ideal for people like you who don't want to spend a lot of money on upgrading the HPOP.

No problem Mark. I was reading Mike's 38R thread I believe it was and they were talking about hpop/sticks/turbo compatability. Figured I should ask, and thanks to Curtis and everyone else I got some great info...as usual.

So Chris, what injectors are you thinking about getting? I have Casserly 235cc hybrids, and I can tell you a healthy stock pump is plenty. But if you're going to be a while, the mod'ed stock pump will give you a nice bump with the stock sticks and isn't a big waste of $$$ if you go hybrids later. Hybrids use the least oil out of all of all of them, so I don't think you need big oil with them. Sure there is a slight increase even with hybrids, but I don't think the investment is really worth the high price tag. My $0.02....

i am kinda in same boat as chris. right now my stock pump with WOT in 80e my icp will jump right up to 3000 for a second the drop down to 1800-2000. dont plan on single shot or hybrids. was thinking of a new HPOP does the Adrenaline and Terminator pumps run around the same price? do they do about the same thing?

Yes, the mod'ed stock Term pump is similar to the Adrenaline to the best of my knowledge. It would give you a nice bump in performance -- mine was dropping to that level as well, and had I planned on keeping stock sticks, I would've gone with the Adrenaline. Not sure what the new Termy T1 is about. Maybe Curtis or someone can fill us in. I have no need for "medium" oil now.
