just did a set of filters of an 08 that was in for repairs. there is an updated fuel filter for the frame mount pump. the new filter is now sealed with an oring to help reduce debris from entering the high pressure pump.

Since the newer filter has the same part number, has anyone confirmed that the filters being sold from www.dieselfiltersonline.com are the newer design ones? Or did you pick the filter up from the dealership?
Could not find where the updated Fuel Filter number was posted so I am doing an update here. FD-4617 are the updated fuel filters for the 6.4L. Yes, from what I am seeing, the O-ring is the difference and they seem just a little more dense.
They are taller as well so the o-ring will slip inside the housing.
Any of you that change your own fuel filters ever take a light and look inside the primary housing? I found crud on the bottom of both of mine and even some further up inside where the new style o-ring goes in. Tough to clean out.

What was your solution to getting to the crud and cleaning it out?
Long skinny screwdriver to reach up in the o-ring area, pulling, raking or whatever to the bottom of the housing and wiping till the white towel came out clean. Real pain in the ****. One was dirtier than the other so cycled the pump and drained it again but the container that caught the fuel was clean. Hopefully I didn't stir up a mess, both trucks have been running fine.

Worthy of bumping this post as some places may try to sell you the old fuel filters FD-4609; you now want the FD-4617 for the 6.4 diesel F-series trucks.
The filter sets for the 6.0 were updated too: FD-4604 is replaced by FD-4616.
I have read that the new 0-ring on the end of the filter opposite the cap was to prevent water from getting pushed past the filter in some cases; elsewhere on this site I have read it was to prevent crud from getting past the filter. In any case I don't think any of us want anything getting past the filter w/o passing through it.
I missed this original thread and some similiar to it and only became aware of the new filters when noticing a difference on son-in-laws fuel filters for his 6.0 PSD. So hopefully bumping this thread might help someone else out there.....
