Foil delete question

What type of paint should I use?A high heat enamel? Then clear coat? Primer?Stupid questions but only want to do it once.. Also, I was thinking about painting the black plastic piece that covers the hpop and fuel filter that says powerstroke, I see most guys dont, is there a reason? Will paint made for plastic hold up? Oh and what to use to get the foil and whatever might be under the foil?

Regular Rustoleum Yellow and topped if off with a coat of clear. No primer . It has worked for me for 2 summers now. This picture was from early this summer and a year later the paint still holding up as you can see, after pulling the 5th wheel camper around during the hot season.. When reinstalling, before you tighten the boots back up, make sure the tube isn't hitting your power steering pump bolt. In the back of the pump there is a bolt head that runs pretty close to the tube.. Mine was hitting "tap, tap, tap"
Rustoleum worked for me and some will say, Get high temp paint because the tube runs pretty close to the manifold. But i am cheap and i wanted to go cheap to see if it would work. It would be easy to upgrade paint but i haven't had the need yet.

Black Plastic.. Didn't use it on my truck stuff, Yet.. But i used dupont bumper paint, flat black on my jeep plastics.. HOLY cow that stuff sticks. don't get it on your hands because even paint thinner would hardly touch it.. Plastic on my jeep held up nicely all summer. Still nice and black even after the hot summer. They were grey and fugly and got that paint at the local auto shop. "advanced auto" i think it was.

Getting the foil off is the hardest part of this.. Wear gloves. It ripped up my fingers pretty well.. Mineral spirits helped get the glue off along with the aid of some steel wool. Took my time and said a lot of swear words.. Jee wiz that is some good glue.. Well "jee Wiz" is all can post here. My actual was a lot worse. Didn't think i was every going to get it cleaned up. I was thinking SAND BLASTER..

Any descent paint will do. Paint the HPOP cover if you like it want hurt, no special paint required here I don't take mine off all the time but some do, its 2 IIRC 10mm nuts. I used some brake cleaner a good wire brush and a drill with a wire brush on it. It takes a little bit to get the glue and foil off but no biggie. I have not painted mine yet but I might soon.

The regular rattle can seems to work fine for the pipes. My wife used fingernail polish on the letters on the plastic cover on her truck and it's held up fine, so I'm sure the plastic paint will work there too.

Just remember that foil can be sharp and will cut you if you don't pay attention.

I did the CCV mod, ran it to the rear of the passenger door with no canister. I have not seen any oil drops at all on the concrete.

I Done the foil delete and then used a "Scotch Bright" red wheel in my drill and gave it the brushed look, it looks like the pipes are aluminumized steel and brush up good.

Dont do like I did....................
I scraped off the foil then I found some paint reducer I had and used it to take off the glue.
It came out looking good , so next I had a can of pretty Ford blue and I sprayed my pipes.
They were looking nice and shiney when I left them in my shop to dry.
Went out the next day and the paint was still wet . oh well its kinda cold guess I need to leave them another day.
Went back the next day and it was still almost as wet as the first day?
Must have been whatever I used to get the glue off.
I landed up using a rag and paint remover to take it all off , but what a mess.
Mine are brushed silver now .........

What I found works well is to peel as much off as you can then take 3M bug and tar remover to the rest..
