I have a 2003 F-350 6.0. I got it for $4,000 because the check engine light was on and drove it for about 3,000 miles before taking it to the mechanic. I did get an oil change right after buying it, though. Anyways, my mechanic said that the MAP sensor and another sensor that I can't remember needed to be replaced, and I got the blower motor for the air conditioning replaced as well, since the air wasn't blowing.
$800 later and 20 miles down the road, the check engine light came back on. I took it back to the mechanic, and he said that the TGI sensor needed to be replaced. I can't remember what it stands for, but I do remember that the G stood for 'geographic.' I must have misunderstood what he said, because I can't find anything about a TGI sensor anywhere. He said it's the sensor that warms the truck up right away, so that I don't have to wait for it to warm up before driving it. He said that I can drive the truck as-is as long as I let it warm up first without harming it, but I'd like to get it fixed eventually.
Does anyone have any idea what the hell this sensor could be?
The only thing that seems remotely like that is the Barometric Pressure (BP) sensor. The PCM uses it to adjust how long the wait to start light stays on.
Spend the money and take it to the dealer or a different mechanic. Sounds like both are unsure and you dont want him working on your truck. Let us know what it actually ends up being...
