1986 460 mods

Hey guys! I just bought an 86 f-250 460 it has 86,xxx miles, Im wondering what kind of mods can I do to get better mileage...

Tom, good luck, my 86 used to get a solid 10mpg (even loaded) till they changed the gas a few years ago, now it's down around 9 +. I installed an early (pre-1972) timing chain set, removed the screens in the tailpipe, and blocked the EGR vacuum line. An overdrive if you have either 4 speed or C6 would help, I am installing an E4OD in mine using a Baumann controller. Next step will be a good mass air flow controlled sequential injection using the rebuilt engine from my parts donor vehicle.

I found a 5 speed manual out of an 88 would it bolt up without much modication?

It will probably fit if it has the 460 bolt pattern. I don't know about driveshaft length.
